True love is when you are out of milk and your five-year old shares her sippy cup so you can have a little in the morning with your coffee.

“Peanut: Adventures of an Aspie Mama” by Rebecca Marie is a 302-page memoir that describes the author’s journey through raising a special needs child, from changing diagnoses to navigating neurodivergent behaviors, learning her unique needs while contending with military deployment, self-doubt, and the day-to-day challenges of parenting.

With adorable photos and journal entries from days spent with Peanut, Rebecca brings readers into the frustrating, unpredictable, and often hilarious adventure of raising a daughter with Asperger’s. By sharing her unique story, the author lets people across the world know that they aren’t alone in the struggles of spectrum disorder parenting.

The book goes beyond a traditional memoir to also offer practical advice for parents and children alike. The honest, candid account of feeling isolated, finding hope, balancing personal and parental needs, and developing strategies for understanding neurological differences ultimately provides a message of hope and connection. This quirky, cute story is also a serious guide to acceptance, gratitude, and understanding that autistic behaviors are human behaviors.
